چکیده

The aim of the study was to simulate T-wave alternans (TWA) magnitude distribution maps on the body surface employing ECGSIM program and then to compare obtained results with data measured from patients. The toolbox for ECGSIM program was developed for TWA simulation. Graphical representation of spatial distribution of TWA magnitude was implemented. Body surface maps of TWA were simulated for different locations of the disturbances on the heart. Simulated data were compared with recordings from patients and similarities were found. Preliminary study shows that ECGSIM program can be used for approximate location of action potential disturbances in the heart cells.

Role of structural barriers in the mechanism of alternans-induced reentry.

Previously, using an animal model of T-wave alternans in structurally normal myocardium, we demonstrated that repolarization can alternate with opposite phase between neighboring myocytes (ie, discordant alternans), causing spatial dispersions of repolarization that form the substrate for functional block and reentrant ventricular fibrillation (VF). However, the mechanisms responsible for cellu...

Macroscopic Visualization of the Heart Electrical Activity Via an Algebraic Computer Model

In this study, a mathematical model is developed based on algebraic equations which is capable of generating artificially normal events of electrocardiogram (ECG) signals such as P-wave, QRS complex, and T-wave. This model can also be implemented for the simulation of abnormal phenomena of electrocardiographic signals such as ST-segment episodes (i.e. depression, elevation, and sloped ascending...

Correlation between Alternans of Early and Late Phases of Ventricular Action Potential

OF THESIS CORRELATION BETWEEN ALTERNANS OF EARLY AND LATE PHASES OF VENTRICULAR ACTION POTENTIAL Several studies suggest that action potential duration (APD) alternans play an important role in initiation of arrhythmias, while less is known about the alternans of early phases of action potential (AP) and phase relation between the two. Transmembrane potentials recorded from swine and canine ven...

Role of calcium cycling versus restitution in the mechanism of repolarization alternans.

T-wave alternans, a powerful marker of arrhythmic events, results from alternation in action potential duration (APD). The underlying cellular mechanism of APD alternans is unknown but has been attributed to either intracellular calcium (Ca2+) cycling or membrane ionic currents, manifested by a steep slope of cellular APD restitution. To address these mechanisms, high-resolution optical mapping...

Mechanism linking T-wave alternans to the genesis of cardiac fibrillation.

BACKGROUND Although T-wave alternans has been closely associated with vulnerability to ventricular arrhythmias, the cellular processes underlying T-wave alternans and their role, if any, in the mechanism of reentry remain unclear. METHODS AND RESULTS -T-wave alternans on the surface ECG was elicited in 8 Langendorff-perfused guinea pig hearts during fixed-rate pacing while action potentials w...
